Special Interest Networks (SINs)

Guidelines for Elist Use

Email messages sent to the entire SIN e-list membership must be:

1. Relevant: Topics must directly relate to the Special Interest topic and tie in with commercial sustainability.

Before sending a message, ask yourself: "Will this or can this communication help fulfill our group's purpose?"

2. Respectful: Be really listening. Ask questions and verify your understanding. Keep messages brief and infrequent -- no "stuffing" or spamming; no personal ads or solicitations.

3. Focused: build on the current thread, or separately invite a new topic (change the "subject" line, but be sure to honor #1 and #2).

4. Civil: No swearing, fighting, kicking, scratching, shoving or biting :>) Healthy disagreement is encouraged, but avoid put-downs, blame, profanity, etc. If approrpiate, take private conversations "offline" (reply to the individual -- not the entire list).

5. Voluntary: C3SN members can join or leave a group at any time with a message to the moderator, daniel@in3inc.com; we will periodically republish the membership of the E-list so participants can know who is "in the [virtual] room."

As a participant, you agree to uphold these guidelines and encourage others to do so as well. Feel free to suggest different or additional guidelines via email to guidelines@in3inc.com.

Want an easy shorthand to remember these five guidelines? Avoid these five deadly sins of SINs ...

Thou Shalt Not ...

1. Disconnect from the theme, purpose or topic at hand

2. Disrespect

3. Derail or detour (stay on track, please)

4. Personalize or publicize (keep private business private)

5. Hold hostage (self or others) ... be "at choice"
